about
UBC UKRAINIAN STUDENT UNION and UBC ALUMNI have teamed up to create an event to increase intercultural understanding of Ukraine while hosting a fundraiser where collected funds from the event will be directly donated for anti-war relief efforts in Ukraine.
All raised funds will go to Drew Luhowy, a Canadian volunteer from Manitoba with Ukrainian ancestry, who uprooted his life at the beginning of the war, and has since been distributing humanitarian and medical aid throughout many different cities in Ukraine, to communities most at need.

DONATION
After first arriving in Poland on his way to assist in Ukraine, Drew joined forces with other volunteers on the ground with the same vision: to bring critical aid to the most needy and underrepresented communities deep in Ukraine.
Since then, the group has worked tirelessly to regularly deliver tons of food and other humanitarian aid, even to places within 9 miles of the Ukrainian-Russian border. They are determined to break the mold on how tenacious groups of individuals can have a lasting impact on supporting communities most affected by this crisis. Every ounce of every donation is taken as far as possible while buying in Ukraine where possible to boost the local economy and support local farmers and vendors, and partnering with larger organizations and sourcing warehouses to repurpose available free items to communities in need. The team does their best to maximize efficiency and minimize waste, and regularly pushes themselves to the limit to deliver this aid in the shortest window possible: “We just want to help Ukraine. Slava Ukraini!”
ABOUT RECENT WORK
During the past few runs, Drew and the team of volunteers were able to deliver in total 4000 lbs of fresh produce, 4000 lbs of nonperishable food items, medicine for the hospital, personal care items, and 1000 lbs of pet food. During a week in June alone they delivered 4,000 lbs of salt, meat, and female hygiene products to people and towns on the Ukraine - Russian border. They also assisted another NGO in delivering two vehicles to Ukraine.

At the beginning of July, Drew and the team of volunteers were able to assist some military units with non-perishable food items, hygiene products, and much-needed mosquito sprays. Supplies were delivered to heavily affected regions of Ukraine including Mykolaiv, Kramatorsk, Dnipro, Mariupol, and Kharkiv. They will continue to support not only civilians but also military units in their efforts to protect Ukraine.

Late May, some of the team’s vehicles were caught in a rocket attack in Kharkiv. Unfortunately, that meant a hefty bill for fixing the vehicles.
